CHRISTMAS: What a Wonderful Time of the Year!

www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/I-Luv-Special-Ed

I just LOVE Christmas. I have already decorated my house. :) Anyway, I decided to use my favorite Christmas poem to make a classroom activity for my students.

So most of my 3rd graders did not do so well on the second quarter of their DAZE passages. They had difficulty with choosing the correct word to make each sentence make sense. They only have one minute to read and then choose the best answer.

So I decided to read them the poem "Twas the Night before Christmas" by Clement Moore and then give them a cloze activity to see how much of the poem they remember. I hope they will enjoy this activity as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Letterland

This school year I have been working collaboratively with my Occupational Therapist. We have been working on letter formation using Letterland. In this picture we made a mask from Eddy Elephant.

Letterland

Last year our school district adopted the Letterland series to teach phonics, spelling and reading to our Kindergarten and First Grade students. As a resource teacher we support Letterland by teaching the intervention strand. There are not many materials to support the intervention piece.

Letterland is an Orton-Gillingham based program. I know for my students (students with specific learning disabilities), they require practice, practice, and more practice. So I created Reading and Writing Sentence handouts to supplement the intervention strand lessons. Each handout correlates with the sentences introduced in the intervention sections. There are 4 sections, Set A, Set B, Set C, and Set D. I have created supplements for Set A, B and C. I am still working on Set D.

I hope these help other special education teachers as they try to support Letterland instruction in their classroom. Teachers can purchase these handouts on my Teachers Pay Teachers website.

Lunch Room Table

So, I decided to share with you my classroom. I have a very tiny space. I had to be meticulous about how to organize my furniture and supplies to make room for all of my stuff. :) Anyway, as a resource teacher we add more students throughout the year. Well, my first graders have gone from 3 to 8. So I had to come up with an idea to seat all 8 students at one time in a very small space. My friend Lita started using a lunchroom table in her room because of the same problem. I decided to try it. I LOVE it.

My lunch room table gives me enough seats for my students to work and leaves just enough room to walk around safely in my classroom. Totally Awesome!!

Nursery Rhymes

So I decided to make more cloze reading activities, but this time for my younger students. I decided to go with Nursery Rhymes. I chose five of my favorite Nursery Rhymes: Humpty Dumpty, Jack be Nimble, The Muffin Man, Little Miss Muffin, and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (which happens to be my kids favorite). I also made some fun phonics activities to go with each Nursery Rhyme. I am so excited about using these in my classroom. I know my 1st graders will LOVE it!!
